| David Poe was a tenant farmer of fair circumstances on the estate of The Maxwell family in Dring, County Caven, Ireland. He was member of the vestry of the Parish of Kildallon and between the years 1720 and 1731 he was one of the overseers of roads in the parish. |

| In his will dated the 25th of August, 1742, he bequethed to his wife, together with his son-in-law, Archibald Scott and Anne Scott, his wife, one half of his holdings, being a fourth part of Dring, together with all movables then in his possession; to his son Alexander, the sum of $5 sterling; to Mary Cowan, the sum of $3 sterling and to his son, John, about forty-two acres of land, ten head of sheep and one-half of farm and home effects. His wife Sarah was appointed sole executrix of the will. |

| David Poe died in the course of the following year and on Sept. 22, 1742 his will was proved in the Consistorial Court of Kilmore, by his widow, Sarah Poe. |

| John was a member of Presbyterian Congregation that worshipped in Croghan, which is situate near the town of Killeshandra and about 3 and a-half mile from Dring. It is believed that John and his family emigrated to America abt 1749 or 1750. He purchased a farm in Lancastor Co., Pennsylvania. The family later moved to Cecil Co., Maryland, settling in the Baltimore area. |

| David Poe supported his family as a wheel-wright as well as being involved in several other businesses after moving to Baltimore. He served in the War of Independence and in Sept., 1799 he was appointed Deputy-Assistant Quatermaster-General on the Baltimore lines. From holding this post he was afterward known in his family as "General Poe". |

| Samuel fought in the French and Indian War, He was wounded in the knee in Braddock's Defeat in 1775, an injury he never fully recovered from. He also served in the Revolutionary War, he was shown in the Company of Captian Thomas Waggoner of Fort Holland, northwest of Winchester. He served as a Private in Captian Moses Hawkins 14th Virginia Regiment of the Continental Regulars, commanded by Colonel Charles Lewis. |

| After serving in the Revoluntary War, Samuel returned to his home in Culpeper Co., Virginia, where he remained for the rest of his life. He and his family lived in the portion of Rappahonok Co. that was once a part of Culpeper Co. in the area that is known as Poe's Mountian and Poe's Road. |
