William Lowder* was born abt 1750, he died 1846/47 in Albemarle, Stanly Co., NC. William married Elizabeth Eudy. They had 12 children;Mary Lowder, John Lowder b.1780, Henry Lowder b.1793, Manuel Lowder b.1795, Elizabeth Lowder b.1798, Jacob Lowder b.1800, Catherine Lowder b.1800, Soloman Lowder b. 1804, Sarah Lowder b. 1809, William Lowder Jr. b.1810, George Gideon Lowder b.1811 and Isaac Lowder b.1814
William and his brother Thomas Lowder came to the area that is now known as Stanly Co.,NC in 1785/87. William and his family settled along Bear Creek, in what is now the extreme western section of Stanly Co. They were members of the Dutch Buffalo Creek Church in Cabarrus Co.,NC. William and Thomas worked on many of the first roads that were built in Stanly Co.

George Gideon Lowder* (William) was born Aug 15 1811 in Stanley Co. North Carolina. He was the 11th child born to William Lowder and Elizabeth Eudy. He married Mary Serida Bishop on Dec 25, 1834. They had 9 children; Benjamin Lowder b.1835, Mary Ann Lowder b.1836, Elizabeth Lowder b. 1837, William Lowder b. 1839, Nancy Lowder b.1840, Katy Lela Lowder b. 1842, James Gideon Lowder b. 1844, Celia Lowder b. 1846, and Henry Lowder b. 1847.
After the death of his wife Mary Bishop, he married Eliza Pendleton. They had 6 children; John Lowder b.1850, Aaron Lowder b.1854, George Lowder b.1856, Barbara Lowder b.1859, Prestley Lowder b. 1861 and Charles Lowder b.1867
George Gideon Lowder left Stanly Co. North Carolina in 1827 when he was 16 years old. He migrated to Illinois, possibly living for some time in Tennessee. After arriving in Illinois he started going by his middle name and was known thence forth as Gideon Lowder. He served in the Black Hawk war. The following is an abstract copy from Volunteer Soldiers in Indian Wars and Disturbances, 1815-1858, Volume II, L-Z, on page 850. “Gideon Lowder,Private, served in Captain Houston’s Company of the Spy Battalion in the 3rd Brigade of Illinois Mounted Volunteers, in the Black Hawk War.”
In 1939 he purchased 40 acres of land in Clay Co. Illinois and built a home there. The house is still there, although there have been additions added on to the house. In 1850 Gideon and his family were living in Effingham Co. IL. where he had purchased 80 acres of land.
Gideon died March 30 1877 in Effingham Co. The following is an abstract copy of his obituary which was published in the Effingham Democrat, July 1877. "”Gideon Louder died suddently on Mar 30, 1877 - the cause of his sudden departure was while trying to rescue a colt from the abuse of a mule, he received a stroke,whether by the head or heels of the mule is not known. Mr. Louder was one of our best citizens, a good and properous farmer, and a man that attended his own business!
He is buried next to his 2nd wife Eliza in Wrights Cemetery, Mason, Effingham Co. IL. Thier headstone reads; Earth has lost its look of gladness; Heaven seems to us, more bright; Since the spirit of our loved ones; Took their happy homeward flight.
